Elmwood Renovation Update
Elmwood Golf Course
Renovation Status - November 2016
Since we do not have to close another 9 for construction, we have the luxury of waiting a bit longer to open the West 9. This additional time for grow in will help to create the best possible conditions when the course reopens. Elmwood will resume normal operations next May, with 18 hole play on the West and North Nines and the East Course available for walk on play at its traditional value pricing.
Thank you again for your patience as we come to the end of this this important and beneficial renovation process. We are working hard to ensure that Elmwood will be better than ever when we resume normal operations in 2017!
Here is an update on the status of the courses.
West Nine - With the exception of the last two holes seeded, #6 and #8, the grow in is right on track. We have been reseeding, sodding, and pushing growth on all of the turf this fall so the course is ready to play next spring. Conditions will be excellent for a freshly renovated course, and as you have seen with the North and East, the West will rapidly mature throughout the year.
The new West Nine will have a better design and improved turf conditions throughout the course. Like the North Nine, about half of the course, holes #2-5, is essentially the same. Holes #1 and #6-9 utilize the same corridors as the old holes, but the new routing allows us to move fairway landing areas and greens away from areas that are prone to settling. New #1, #6, and #8 greens are no longer located on these areas, and reversing holes 1 & 9 and 6 & 7 means that the fairways on all the new holes will be free from settling.
North Nine - The improved North Nine is maturing nicely, and continues to get rave reviews from those who are playing it for the first time. The greens have continued to improve throughout the year. We will work on aerifying and overseeding fairways this fall.
East Course - The East Course conditions are awesome and will be the best value in town when it resumes its walk-on status in 2017. The large, unirrigated areas in the middle of the course were planted with low maintenance grasses with the intention is to let them grow tall. The look is tremendous, but we will also be adjusting our mowing patterns based on golfer feedback to improve playability.
Junior Course - We are currently using the three existing holes on the Junior Course for The First Tee programming only. The last two holes are being grown in now and with all of the sprinklers going, we are going to wait until late May of 2017 to open up all five holes to the public.
